Replacement Support Cannondale R800?
Hello, my pedal has been grinding for a while and I suspect urgent need of replacement. I found the specifications of my bike http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=1998&Brand=Cannondale&Model=R800&Type=bike stipulating that the media background is a version of 68 mm Shimano UN52. So I understand the UN54 is the latest version of this bottom bracket. I found several different versions: 110mm, 113mm, 118mm, 122mm and 127.5mm. Which version is right for my bike? Thanks, Brant PS: Apart from a new front and central stem, the bike is stock.
Your 8-sp Shimano 105SC pedal requires a length of 107 mm from the pin. The spindle taper is JIS. If "just wants to be sure," pull the BB from its frame to see what the length pin that is in it before buying the replacement of BB. Most places stock 107mm BBs, but still not as common as other formats. If you can not get one 107mm for some reason, you should be fine with a 110mm, the difference is only 1.5 mm in the side of the unit … that's what counts. If your bike is the original BB is probably an old-style model with an adjustable Shimano alloy cup. Modern UN54 BBs a plastic cup. These are very good, as long as the fat of the wires correctly and not overtorque Cup. Otherwise, it may crack during installation or subsequent removal. Depending on your BB now, you may be able to reuse alloy cutting if desired. Or you can go with a BB from another manufacturer (Sugino, IRD, others?) Still using alloy rings.
