my playstation 3 is not displaying on the tv and the joypads are not reading can any one help me?

when i turn on the playstation all the lights cum on as normal and the eject button works and the game also spins inside as normal but when trying to turn it off again i cant use the standby button as it wont work.
also the joy pads wont connect to the system can ne1 help me??????????????/
